MARC for MATA
MARC (Memphis Accessibility Reporting & Community) is a web app for the Memphis Area Transit Authority. It won the 2026 Rhodes Hackathon.
Riders see live bus positions on a map, plan trips from bundled GTFS data, and report accessibility problems (broken ramps, elevators, crowding, signage) tied to a specific bus or route. Reports can carry photos, and an LLM drafts the description and scores severity so an admin queue can sort unresolved issues by how urgent they are.
After the hackathon I kept building it as version 2: a 3D map with buses rendered as models, route highlighting that splits the path into traveled and remaining, better GTFS matching, and per-route summaries of recent reports. The stack is Next.js and TypeScript on the front end, Flask on the back end, and MongoDB for reports and images.
